Jagdish Kharel (born August 6, 1982) is a reputed media professional and a government official who has served as a journalist for 16 years in the Nepali media landscape. Currently, he serves as the Minister for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in the interim government of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. On September 21, 2025, Prime Minister Sushila Karki recommended Kharel to the ministerial role at a pivotal moment, amid widespread Gen Z–led protests calling for greater transparency, digital inclusion, and systemic reform. He was sworn in as the Minister of Information and Communication Technology on September 22, 2025.

Over the years, Jagdish Kharel has earned recognition for his fearless journalism, compelling interviews, and deep commitment to public service. With this transition from the media to governance, he aims to uphold media freedom while strengthening institutional frameworks. His initial priorities include accelerating the nationwide 5G rollout and enhancing capacity-building programs for local media outlets.
